Today you may be thinking about quitting smoking, but chances are
that you are still thinking how much you like smoking or at least
wondering how you could manage without cigarettes.
It has been
said that people generally over-estimate what we can do in the short-
term and under-estimate what we can do in the long-term.
I think
this saying can be twisted to over estimating the difficulty of quitting
and under estimating how much your life can be impacted in the long
run.
Have you ever stopped and thought about what you want from
your life in the future or even what things you want to do in your life.
I'm sure there are many things but how will smoking affect your future plans?
Maybe
the thousands of dollars you spend each year will prevent a financial
goal from being realised leaving you regretting all of those rotten
cigarettes
What are some of the things you are planning which will
need you to be fit and healthy, maybe some travel where you need to
walk or at least have a reasonable amount of fitness or mobility..
How do you see yourself as an older person? Are you active, do you have good enough health to have options in work and hobbies?
Maybe
the time you spent away from loved ones will come back to haunt. It
could be all of those times you were outside while your child watched
you through the window and waited for you to finish your smoke.
I'm
sure you can see the theme of this article. Your future life is in your
hands up to a point. So what is it going to be? There are enough
uncertainties and unavoidable risks in life without purposefully setting
yourself up for an early death or at least a life plagued with illness.
Your
future life is the big picture, but if you break it down into your
future lung health, or you future ability to breath, climb stairs or
just be active enough to feel that life is OK.
